P.A.R.T.Y. is a trauma prevention and health promotion initiative that seeks to build resilience in young people through the lived experience of a major trauma service.
With presentations by the clinical staff that care for trauma patients, tours through critical care areas of the hospital, encounters with trauma patients and hands on rehabilitation activities, program participants spend a day gaining firsthand experience of the impact of traumatic injury
The P.A.R.T.Y. Program is free for schools and is for participants in year 10 and over.
The only cost of the excursion is transport to and from the hospital and the resource cost for staff to attend (with the students) for a whole day.
The Program involves a full day schedule commencing at 9.00am and concluding at 3.00pm.
The maximum number of students is capped at 35 due to the areas of the hospital the Program visits, and to ensure all students can meaningfully participate in the hands-on activities. A minimum number of 25 ensures that opportunities to attend are not wasted due to limited places available in the school year. If this number is not reached, The Alfred reserves the right to offer additional places to another school.
A minimum of four (4) school staff are required to attend with students.
These can be:
- school nurses;
- class teachers;
- student teachers;
- or other staff members
A senior teacher or staff member must attend as the teacher-in-charge.
Six weeks prior to a school's P.A.R.T.Y. date, The Alfred will post out a P.A.R.T.Y. information pack. The pack includes suggestions for suitable student selection and all the necessary parent, student and teacher information and consent forms required for attendance.
Dates are allocated via a ballot held yearly in November. We have an even number of places for government and non- government schools. If you are interested in being in the ballot for next year, please register your interest. Unfortunately, The Alfred is not able to accommodate all booking requests and schools can’t attend the in-hospital program 2 years in a row.
If you are unable to secure a booking, the P.A.R.T.Y. in the Classroom pack available for purchase. This pack (based on the in-hospital program) aims to provide educators with some tools to explore the P.A.R.T.Y themes and to replicate some of the experiences in a classroom context.
